HORIZON- New series. Profile of autistic professor Dr Temple Grandin, who is famous for her ability to talk to animals and understand their behaviour in ways no one else can. She believes her remarkable skill developed as a result of her brain disorder and claims she experiences life in the same ways as the animals themselves |

| | Thanks VW...I meant to post this but you beat me to it!!
Can I just add that the programme claims that Temple Grandin "revolutionised the business of slaughter"...and "people in the cattle industry look up to her as a hero"..I assume as she has inspires changes which may make the process of slaughter appear more humane and therefore more acceptable. Nowhere have I seen her condemn the killing of animals as such....nor have I seen any claim that she can "talk to" animals or make them understand her. She claims to relate to their feelings and understand what can distress them. There is no proof of that though..sorry VW to step on your toes...just trying to clarify a some points! |

| | I saw most of this programme, but was interrupted
by phone calls. It confirmed my view above...that she 1) does not claim to be able to "talk to animals" as the hype beforehand suggested
2) does not believe in animals' right to life (her phrase was something like "I have no ideology about it").
3) She claims to have recommended changes that may reduce cattle's stress before slaughter. There is no proof of this, or how widespread any changes actually are.
4) She travels around the West like those quack "doctors" used to with their fake medicines, claiming to have some special empathy with animals which is very questionable.
I am not surprised that she is a hero to the meat industry (as said in Radio Times) as she helps them project the myth of humane slaughter, thus making their evil trade more acceptable to the public. Any other views? |

| | | To be honest you could predict it was going to be BS when the trailer the BBC have been playing for the last week said she "made a whole world stop and listen..". Except nobody has ever heard of her. Go figure! |

| | | I thought "Saxondale" was poor and really paled in comparison with "Still Game" which was on earlier on beeb 2. Very funny, perhaps not a million miles from Rab c Nesbit |

| | I enjoyed that first episode of Saxondale.
The character played by Steve Coogan seemed to be quite a lengthly venture from the other 'role' characters he has previously played, and seemed to be a branch towards a more serious and realistic role for him!
Anyone ever see Duncan Thicket and Tony Ferrino on Steve Coogan Live?, then of course there was Alan Partridge and Paul and Pauline Calf, he has a whole host of characters.
If you missed tonights 'Saxondale', I saw it and report that the animal activist demo (consisting of three people?) was mocked by Coogans character 'Saxondale' in the programme, they were also quite uninventively subjected stylistically towards the orthodoxly portrayed stereotype character fashion, though the mockery was also dealt invertedly towards his own role as a pest controller, with commentary after he'd shot a bird (that could have easily been rescued by non-life threatening methods) that it was unavoidable in many circumstances!, even though his helper was at hand with a net!, a quite hilarious parody to be related to the supposed unavoidable perspective given by, as an example; companies that conduct animal testing for household cleaning products!
It would seem these activists are being lined up to be making a routine visit throughout each episode of the series! Stay tuned!
DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN!....DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN!....DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN!....DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN!....DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN!....DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN! DAN!....(remember that one! I do!) |

| | Well folks, its the end of an era, top of the pops
is no more!I havnt watched it in years of course as I have become my dad and just shout and tut at the shower who call themselves youthful beat combos. Tsk!
Anyway I was wondering if anyone had any outstanding TOTP memories? Or was even on it?!
Mine would have to be seeing Debbie Harry for the first time(swoon), my dad switching it off and shouting "long haired, layabout, homosexual communists!" at The Sweet. Oh and my gran saying "Have a wash thats what you want to do!"
when Eddy and the Hot Rods sang "Do anything you wanna do" |
