| | | hiya everyone i am new.. i still consume dairy and have went through periods of not eating any though always ended up going back. i wonder if you believe i am cruel because i eat dairy. i dont feel as i am being cruel. i dont eat eggs because its new life unfertilised. and as a karma its not good. i have been vege for 10 years and on and off for nearly 20. i do think it is bad for your health and not really natural to eat other animals milk. however on a site like this with so many vegans i almost feel guilty. so i thought i would bite the bullet and start a thread on it and see what other point of views people have. i am prepared to be shot down lol. |

| | | Well dairy products still exploit animals so it goes against the ethos of vegetariansm a bit, although whether it's cruel or not mostly depends on the farming methods: battery farming is cruel, free range is ok I guess. |

| | | Well, by cosuming dairy you are effectively supporting the veal industry. Cows need to have a calf to produce milk, those calves usually end up as veal. If you drink milk, eat yoghurt, cheese or butter etc then that is something your conscience has to deal with. |

| | Drinking milk is not supporting the veal industry. Eating veal does that. That's like saying that paying a plumber who eats meat to do your plumbing is supporting the meat industry because he/she will then spend it on meat. It would be possible in the absence of a meat industry to produce milk, albeit in smaller quantities by making sure all calfs were femal, (selective insemination). There would be no "useless" males then. Similarly it is feasable to produce female chickens to lay eggs, again in reduced numbers. As long as the egg is unfertilised it would simply rot if not eaten. I see no problem there. These things are possible with the right attitude. Unfortunately ,as far as farmers and most consumers are concerned, animals are just widgets to be bought, sold and consumed.

| | I honestly believe that more cruelty goes into producing a glass of milk then a plate of streak. The mother cow's suffering is on going year after year, she is 'raped' only to give birth to a baby that's stolen from her with in days of birth (very very distressing), she then will most likely suffer many of the common ailments that dairy cows suffer whilst her body is drained of life in order to produce a totally unnatural amount of milk, and when she's exhausted and worn out, she'll struggle up and down ramps on her way to the slaughter house, and then there's the HELL that her male calves will be put through.
I just think that once people know better… it's then really up to them to try and do better.
It's about educating people about the consequences of the dietary choices. |

| | | The milk and meat industry are inseparable.I do not think free range eggs are cruelty free as i discovered when i helped move thousands of chickens in 'chicken lib 2008'(legally).The conditions they were kept were horrible. If you check out the vegan society ,animal aid or viva you can gain a terrible insight into the cruelty inflicted by the dsiry industry.Have a go at being vegan its fab. |

| | wow well i got what i asked for lol. i do feel cruel i have for a while thats why i stopped and i know the cows must go through hell. poor things. i am going to try be vegan anyway i am working towards that. changing my diet slowly so i will stick to it and it will be normal for me.
i do have my own problems like i have fits, at the moment i dont like going out on my own cos if i have a fit in public with my baby something may happen to her. so i feel dependent and house bound which is horrible for me. so at the moment i love my food alot. i will still aim to change though its harder time than others as diet is a little luxury i guess when i dont have many. i wont leave my baby with anyone else. i breast feed. besides i worry someone may not give her the love and attention when she needs it so i am always there.
i do know the poor cow just gets used everyday and it does make me upset. however i understand you feel strongly about the poor cow getting abused. though i read what you thought about abortion and you feel its up to the mother. i cant understand how you can feel so strongly for a mother cow being raped as you put it. though dont feel so strongly about a helpless life being killed with its own mothers consent. it is very hard to say. though there is always adoption agencys. even if the child is disabled to us. to the child it is norm. as long as a person does not mind supporting the disabled being they could have a very fulfilling life to them. its only us looking at them who think they are disabled. they feel quite fine. there will always be someone somewere who wants to adopt a child both healthy and ill. my step sister had a disabled child because of hospital neglegence. she is really disabled. was just problem at birth. though she is loved and seven years now. she cant really move. though my sister in law looks after her and loves her 24 hours a day. she has three children now. when talking to her about another child she is thinking of adopting a disabled baby who is not wanted. so there is always someone out there wanting a baby that a mother maybe thinking of terminating.
my baby was not planned and i kept it a secret for 4 months. though i take the responsability. i chose to have sex and pregnancy was the outcome so i dealt with it. thats just what i believe. now my baby is my life and everything for me. imagine if i would of considered abortion. her father did sugest it. i never could do that. it just feels so wrong to me. even though nothing was planned. it will still be great. i have faith. i have belief. i am totally rambling and going off subject lol. anyway going to play scrabble now. cya xxxxxx love and light to all xxx |

| | | lol adam i know what you mean. i do think that myself there is probably nothing wrong with eating eggs. though i just dont do it. i am more leniant now than i used to be i do eat products with egg in now so i guess thats just the same. yeah i guess they would just go to waiste otherwise so why not eat them. though they are a chickens menstral cycle. lol sorry dont want to put you off your breakfast though thats what it is ... lol... anyway if your heart is in the right place i guess all is good... even some people who eat meat could be really nice people who are just blind to the truth and you could get a vegan who kills people. so i dont think there is cleen cut lines anymore as i used to. love to all xxx |
