I received this email. Please have a look and contribute if you're interested.

----------------

Dear friends,

Welcome to all new members!

Please find attached Animals Count's 2009 summer news with information about our forthcoming workshop on 25th July in London and our Third Party Conference on 19th September (which happens to be ‘Puppy Mill Awareness Day' to inform members of the public about the cruelty involved in puppy farms).

In addition, Animals Count is presently responding to three consultations:

1. Consultation on Protecting Animals used in Scientific Research (http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/documents/cons-2009-animals-research/) – closes 3rd July
2. Consultation on the Welfare of Racing Greyhounds Regulations 2010 (http://www.defra.gov.uk/corporate/consult/greyhound-welfare/racing-greyhounds-consultation.pdf) – closes 22nd July 2009
3. Consultation on the Tuberculosis Eradication ( Wales ) Order 2009 under the Animal Health Act 1981 (http://wales.gov.uk/docs/drah/consultation/090603bovinetborderconsdocen.pdf) – closes 30th July

Please consider responding to one or more consultations individually because this is your chance to make your opinion heard by decision-makers. Organisations such as BUAV and Dr Hadwen Trust have standard responses to the first consultation, in case you don't have much time to respond in full.

For the Greyhound consultation, please visit the Racing Dog Protection Act initiative at: www.rdpa.org.uk which includes a standard letter that can be sent to Defra.

Thank you for your support. We hope that you will continue to help Animals Count grow, and give the party the best chance as possible at next year's elections by joining and/or getting actively involved.

And finally… If you do have a dog or other companion animal, make sure they don't suffer from heat stress or dehydration during these hot days. Always have water and shade available and never leave dogs in cars in summer. But I am sure I am preaching to the converted here!

With kind regards,

Jasmijn de Boo

They do work with the Green Party in the London area, in the sense that they've got them to take on some their policies in exchange for not having a rival candidate there.

Yes, we are way behind some other European countries with re-cycling. When I was in Sweden in the early 1990's they were more advanced than we are now. My council still won't collect and re-cycle plastic.
Thanks for the info about the organisation. I have not heard of them before, so I will have a look. I'm interested in the welfare of greyhounds consultation. If my lifestyle was more suitable, I would love to have a rescue greyhound. They are such beautiful animals.
Mind you, I'm not sure what the stray cats would think.

It is possible to train, with humane methods, ex-racing greyhounds not to view your cats as prey (but they probably won't generalise to other people's!). And there are those that have little/no prey drive and never make the race track.

Just thought I would say. :-)

Plus, they actually don't need much exercise and are mostly very docile. They're greyt!

Just a reminder that the greyhound response needs to be in by 22nd July, and you don't need to answer all those questions to have your say. You can go to the Racing Dogs Protection Act website and add your name to their standard letter. It'll only take a few seconds!

The sight also contains lots of useful (and sad) information for you to pass on to anyone who thinks greyhound racing isn't cruel.

Actually, I was thinking about what the cats might do to the dog.....
Although I realise that cats and dogs can live quite happily together. But, this message has not yet reached my cats!

If you live in the Islington South and Finsbury constituency, you can vote for Richard Deboo!
