I have a moral dilemma! It's nothing serious, I was just interested to know what you would do in the same situation...

Yesterday my neighbour in the flat below complained that my juicer wakes her up every morning! So, what do you do? Stop juicing, change the time you juice, tell her tough - should I change my routine for her?

We could use this thread for debating other dilemmas. If you want!

Aren't there any restrictions in your contract, like what times you can have your TV on, do your laundry etc? Your juicer would probably come uder that. If it's very early could you do it the evening before and leave it in the fridge?

No, there's nothing like that. Thing is, I'm a real morning person and fit for not much in the evenings. I actually get up 2 hours 10 mins before I have to leave for work in the morning, to juice, prepare lunch etc. That time is really important 'me' time. Should I really have to change my routine? I have a right to my routine, but yes she has a right to her sleep!

I did actually agree with her that I'd do it as late as possible, we agreed on 7.45am. But when I thought about it I realised it can't be that late because I have to allow for drinking it and washing up afterwards!

Another question though, supposing I bulk juiced, to reduce the number of noise occasions, would nutrients be lost by storing it in the fridge for a few days?

My initial thoughts to this are you should try and keep the peace, and accommodate her wishes. After all it is not really a big deal. You could juice at other times and keep the juice in the fridge. On the other hand this response would depend on a few questions:

1) Do you have good relations with her at present?

2) Is she always complaining about things?

I think any noise before 8:30AM or after 10AM is not really on. This is one of the reasons why I don't live in a flat. I like to do things at whatever times I like. This is why I live in a detached house. I have lived in flats before and am really not suited to it.

She was polite when she complained and no, she doesn't always complain about things. However, I have endured regular shouting matches between her and her partner for about a year and not said anything! You say it's not a big deal but that morning time is important to me, like a little ritual. I would miss it if I didn't do it. But provided nutrients aren't lost I'm willing to bulk juice. I think we both need to compromise. I'm happy to do my bit where I can. Occasionally it won't work in her favour but I'll avoid that where possible.

I wonder if I could dull the noise at all...

It's pretty crazy if people need to look to contracts and rules and rights for something like this!

It's quite funny how so many people are at war with their next door neighbours where i have lived, and they have their countries flags all over the place on their cars, recycling bins, etc! :-D

Nutrient loss is not an issue
