I have yet to meet one - and I've certainly known enough men! Perhaps it's just me and I don't actually inspire them enough to do anything remotely romantic ...

I try to be as romantic as possible (honest) but apparently Im just weird or clinging or overtly sexual (long story, french love poetry).
Anyway for you, I couldnt send flowers so....

Shall I compare thee to a summer's day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate.
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer's lease hath all too short a date.
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimm'd;
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd;
But thy eternal summer shall not fade
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow'st;
Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow'st:
So long as men can breathe or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

and for her, my current unrequited love....

Because of you, in gardens of blossoming
Flowers I ache from the perfumes of spring.
I have forgotten your face, I no longer
Remember your hands; how did your lips
Feel on mine?

Because of you, I love the white statues
Drowsing in the parks, the white statues that
Have neither voice nor sight.

I have forgotten your voice, your happy voice;
I have forgotten your eyes.

Like a flower to its perfume, I am bound to
My vague memory of you. I live with pain
That is like a wound; if you touch me, you will
Make to me an irreperable harm.

Your caresses enfold me, like climbing
Vines on melancholy walls.

I have forgotten your love, yet I seem to
Glimpse you in every window.

Because of you, the heady perfumes of
Summer pain me; because of you, I again
Seek out the signs that precipitate desires:
Shooting stars, falling objects.
Pablo Neruda

I'm guessing you didn't write that all by yourself! Am I being hard to please? It probably is partly me. Things (and men) have always been this way - from my teens thru' twenties I only ever got the jokey, gorilla face cards on Valentine's Day. I know I'm seen as just 'one of the lads' most of the time, but still. Despite much stamping of feet and dropping of hints, the 'monkey' cards continued to come until I gave up and organised my own pink satin padded heart cards, candles, flowers, etc. As I say, I don't think men do romance well ... (go on - somebody prove me wrong!)

No unfortunately I didn't write either, Shakesphere and the author is at the bottom of the second one...NO I don't think your asking tooo much...I grew up watching Cary Grant and he would never forget valentines...I like to post poems on here sometimes but I get them mostly from http://oldpoetry.com/opoem/list
I do try to write my own, goes well with my folk tunes but still need alot of work...Maybe the OU has a course

A7788 Romance for beginners
D3344 Advanced Folk tunes

Nick Drake would be a course unit
cue.....
'Cello Song

Strange face
With your eyes
So pale and sincere
Underneath you know well
You have nothing to fear
For the dreams that came
To you when so young
Told of a life
Where spring is sprung

You would seem so frail
In the cold of the night
When the armies of emotion
Go out to fight
But while the earth
Sinks to it's grave
You sail to the sky
On the crest of a wave

So forget this cruel world
Where I belong
I'll just sit and wait
And sing my song
And if one day you should see me in the crowd
Lend a hand and lift me
To your place in the cloud

Cary Grant would probably buy the expensive lingerie but end up wearing it himself!

Some very obscure courses at the OU including one on 'Death and Dying'. Romance and folk music courses don't seem a tall order really, we should suggest them.

I also like the old poetry website you mention, especially Pablo Neruda. Had to produce some poetry for my last OU course - I'm still hot with shame from the poetry tutorial. My poem was called 'Alastair's Pyjamas' but it was supposed to be very serious about unrequited love and life.

This forum is fast becoming an advertisement for the OU!

The romantic man is out there Fifi. I know a guy who has his phone set to play 'The Wonder of You' whenever his partner calls. Perhaps as you say, cos you're 'one of the lads', the guys think you wouldn't appreciate romantic gestures. Personally, I have no idea what goes on in blokes heads anymore. As I get older, I become more confused...

Neither do we most of the time....
Cary Grant, how our hero's dissappoint as we grow older.
I hope there is a poetry course after having read Nick Drake I realised how far I have to go...

I haven't read it, but whoever wrote 'Men Are From Mars' was probably on the right track. Still, it's not so much what you do as the thought that counts. I was actually dead chuffed MetalG that you took the trouble to write anything at all. Doesn't matter that you didn't write it yourself. 'Needy' sounds good to me, esp in such a cute package - wishing I was a bit younger!

i think it is sexist to say its only men.for eg metal sounds a gentleman and how i would love to have lunch in the veggie cafe in hereford go to the cinema and hold hands with a nice girl.ive never known a nice girl, just ones who lie and are selfish [apart from friends who are girls]
