A bit about me... When I joined VR, I was a vegetarian who was aware of the arguments for going vegan, but not convinced that I could make veganism work for me. But with encouragement and support from some of the vegans here, I made the switch early in 2006. However I don't intend becoming the sort of vegan who castigates veggies (or anyone else) for not following my example. Far from it. Over the years a lot of my spare time has revolved around badgers (you wouldn't have guess, would you?!?). I am Badger Conservation Officer for my local Badger Group, Brockwatch, and I maintain a site about badgers on the Web. I also like watching films, sci-fi and comedies on TV, reading, countryside / coastal walks and watching wildlife. Photographing the countryside and wildlife I see is another hobby - see my blog for lots of examples. Unfortunately a recurring health problem has meant that I have been unable to engage in most of my usual activities over the last six months or so. For me the benefits of being vegan/vegetarian are... I can live and let live. Funniest/worst comment I regularly hear about being a veggie/vegan... Quote from a member of the W.I. group I gave a talk to a while back (they provided me with vegan food!): "Are you enjoying your funny food?" I am hoping to meet Is there a soulmate and life partner out there for me? I think I know the answer to that one. Never mind, I'm happy to make friends with people who have similar interests, a sense of humour, or both. If that leads on to something more, that would be a bonus. Actually, it would be incredible! If I could be any animal for a day, I would be a... because... A badger - I'd like to experience life from the perspective of the species I have spent so much time studying and protecting! If I won the lottery I would... Give up work, donate to animal / wildlife charities, travel, and spend even more time working to protect badgers and other wildlife. My favourite vegan / vegetarian meal is? Tarka dall with mushroom pilau and a garlic nan. Hmm, lots of garlic there. At least if there was a power cut after the meal, people would be able to find me in the dark.... My favourite vegan / vegetarian restaurant is? No veggie restaurants round here :( My least favourite restaurant was one in Lynmouth. It had a different veggie option every night - each one was a different type of omelette! My guests (living or dead, actual people or fictional characters) to the ultimate dinner party would include... Bill Bailey, Spike Milligan, Douglas Adams, Joanna Lumley, and some of the lovely people I've met (in person or by e-mail) here at VR. I'll do the washing up afterwards. I need the practice. My ideal date would be (e.g. candlelit dinner) Maybe a country or coastal walk with a picnic lunch. The location and the activity would not be as important as the company of course. My ideal vacation would be A long one! In Exmoor, Dorset, Devon, the Lake District or Snowdonia.
