| 3 things I could not live without | | | Erm, I guess I'd go a bit nuts without pen/paper to write songs/poems and the odd appalling short story. Also some kind of music player, I'm a massive punk rock fan and love being able to listen to awesome bands. A third would probably be a bike, even though I don't have one right now because I'm skint! I absolutely love cycling, looking to get a new bike in a month or so and hit the mountains. |
| | | A bit about me... | | I'm a student of Politics and Economics at Manchester University, going in to my final year in September. I'm a strict vegan. Ethical living and issues play a huge part in defining who I am. I like organic things, punk rock, Fairtrade things, punk rock, cooking organic/Fairtrade things, liberal/socially aware people, punk rock, girls with curly hair, writing good punk rock songs and bad acoustic songs, veganism, playing guitar, bass guitar and drums (badly), singing (quite well), punk rock, debating politics with intelligent people, Buddhism, tattoos (I don't have any....yet...but I will), biking, punk rock, being in the middle of fucking nowhere, and probably some other stuff.
Despite a tendency to take life too seriously I'm pretty laid back around other people...I think. I'd be up for anything casual, even if it's just meeting up for drinks to hang out with some new, like minded people, or maybe even a long-term relationship if I meet the right person, who knows? Have you noticed I'm indecisive yet?
I don't like: supermarkets, global capitalism, the Sex Pistols ('punk' my arse), cars (despite owning one, ahem), and probably some other stuff.
Also I think I want to be a teacher but I'm not entirely sure. |
| | | For me the benefits of being vegan/vegetarian are... | | | Humanity has sadly lost a sense of perspective of the things that allow us to live on this planet. The attachment of an arbitrary monetary value to almost everything has meant we no longer value things for what they are, but in terms of what they are 'worth' financially. I believe for us, as a species, to survive, even to the 22nd century, we need to fundamentally re-assess our attitude to where EVERYTHING we use comes from, to cease recklessly using the world's resources with no consideration for the impact we have. This, fundamentally, is the reason I'm a vegan. I feel sad at how we regard animals as simple commodities to be used and consumed the way we see fit. Animal rights is a huge part of my personal re-assessment of my relationship with the world around me. After all, how can we respect the planet if we don't respect the rich variety of species that live on it? Veganism is the cornerstone of my aim to move to a more compassionate and ethically sound lifestyle. |
| | | Funniest/worst comment I regularly hear about being a veggie/vegan... | | | So many to choose from. The worst ever was an otherwise intelligent guy telling me he actually thought a little bit less of me, after he'd just found out I was vegan. |
| | | I am hoping to meet | | | Think I covered that up there didn't I? |
| | | If I could be any animal for a day, I would be a... because... | | | One that could fly I think. An eagle would be pretty awesome. I'd get hungry though because I wouldn't want to eat any mice. Are there any herbivorous birds? Other than that a deer would be ace, they're so incredibly graceful, don't you think? |
| | | If I won the lottery I would... | | | Buy a house in Devon, take up surfing regularly, live off a million or so and give the rest to development projects in the developing world I think. |
| | | My favourite vegan / vegetarian meal is? | | | Probably falafel in a wrap with shredded iceburg lettuce, chopped tomato and cucumber with houmous and tahini dressing. Honourable mentions go to refried bean burritos with vegan cream cheese and vegan roast dinners. |
| | | My favourite vegan / vegetarian restaurant is? | | | Eighth Day cafe in Manchester probably. |
| | | My guests (living or dead, actual people or fictional characters) to the ultimate dinner party would include... | | | Tough one. Definitely Stephen Fry, because he's basically God in human form. I reckon J.S. Mill would have to be there as well, Oscar Wilde and George Orwell perhaps? The conversation might get a bit heavy though, so I think I'd throw in Charlie Chaplain, who as a lifelong socialist might just make it heavier...this is hard. |
| | | My ideal date would be (e.g. candlelit dinner) | | | Most types of date are good. I wouldn't go to the cinema on the first date, you're supposed to be getting to know each other for crying out loud! Probably dinner at my place over a bottle of wine, followed by conversation and the possibility of watching some kind of hilarious comedy. Anything's good though, really. |
| | | My ideal vacation would be | | | Not a clue. There's nowhere I don't want to go in the world, so everywhere has value in its own right. I'm intrigued to drive around North America in a camper van at the moment though. Anything but a sun and sand holiday, they're so damn boring, unless it includes surfing, in which case that's fine by me! |
